In 1999, six months after graduating from a Masters degree in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, London I came to North Wales for a camping holiday. I fell in love with Anglesey and decided to stay for a while. It seemed to me that some people on this fantastic isle were still living many years in the past as well as having unique characters; their lifestyles begged to be documented. I had carried a camera with me since an early age; getting an interest for social documentary photography from National Geographic magazines at school. I had photographed 'Essex Country Folk' for my first exhibition in the third year (1997) of my Design degree at Colchester Institute in Essex so already had a passion for outdoor life and immediately started to record what I felt and saw. In 2003 I was given my first show on Anglesey and have so far had six exhibitions in two years and am compelled to try and accumulate as many photographs of the areas people before this time in history changes. I am lucky enough to live on a farm, in a caravan near Amlwch.

Self-Portrait. 20 February 2005.

I didn't want to bother anyone taking pictures on a Sunday and needing a creative vent I decided to take a picture of myself. With the Pentax 6x7 on a tripod, 'too- short' a cable-release and no self-timer I had to make do with my left Big Toe. At the 'work-end' of the caravan I'm seated alongside my old kitchen table where I can scan-in and print-out my work.
